This year I settled on a word to be my mantra or goal for 2017!

That word is Less, you can read more about it here, but basically I want..

Less stressing, Less stuff, Less spending, Less worry, Less procrastinating, Less Guilt, Less to organise, Less to do, Less to clean

I’d like to think that for most of my adult life that I’ve been an organised person (let’s not mention how my bedroom looked like as a child). Despite being organised, I constantly felt that I had to reorganise cupboards or fix up an area as things would become “messy’ or hard to find after short periods of time. Despite trying new systems and methods I couldn’t break the cycle of cupboards or areas of our home becoming disorganised or ‘messy’ again.

I had a realisation one day that I simply had too much stuff! I wanted to break the cycle once and for all and so began my giant declutter mission. There are lots of books around that can help you decide what to keep and what to throw away, and I’ve read a few of them myself. But my best advice to you when starting to declutter is to decide how you want a space to look and feel.

e.g. “I want to be able to see and access my clothes easily.”

“I want to open the plastic cupboard in the kitchen without half of it falling out on me.”

” I want to sit in my lounge room and feel calm and peaceful.”

Think of an area or space in your home, How much “stuff” is in that space? Would decluttering make it easier to manage?

After I have a vision for a particular space I find it much easier to part with anything that doesn’t contribute to my vision.

If you haven’t heard of the Kon Marie method, I would highly recommend reading The life changing magic of tidying. It’s a good book to start with and help you kick off your organising goals.

Less truly does equal More! My journey to being So Freaking Organised has shown me that the less stuff I have to “organise” the more time I have for life and the things I want to be doing. It isn’t just less time organising stuff but it’s less time looking for things I need, less time putting things away, less time sorting things and more space to move and breath.

Let me warn you now, once you have a taste of ‘Less’ you’re going to want more! Organising and decluttering can be addictive! The more you throw away and create the environment you truly want, the more you want to keep going!
