I love getting into the festive spirt no matter what the holiday!

Australia Day is a great excuse for some Aussie cooking fun.

Last year I had some fun and with a twist on the classic Iced VoVo, and made this yummy Iced VoVo cake!

You can get the recipe and full instructions here!

If you’re not really a cook or you’re looking for a short cut, you could buy a slab cake from the supermarket to decorate.

The boys and I decorated an Aussie favourite, the Arnott’s Milk Arrowroot to look like one of our Aussie icons – The Koala!

We used

-Milk arrowroot biscuits for the base

– Black food colouring mixed with white icing sugar to make grey icing

-White marshmallows cut in half for the ears

-Chocolate coated sultanas for the noses

– The eyes are available in the cake decorating section of your supermarket. We’ve also used Chocolate chops when we couldn’t find any eyes.

– Desiccated coconut to sprinkle on top for fur

They were so proud of their effort that we made a second batch to take to school and share with their classmates.

The boys are already asking if we’ll be making Koala Cookies again this year.

We love to spend Australia day with family and friends and if that happens to be pool side all the better.

What are you doing this Australia day? I’d love to hear how you spend the day and if you make any yummy treats.

Happy Australia Day

Bernadette
